I think this photo was probably done sometime in the late 1950's or early 1960's.

The Photo: The past few weeks I've been pretty hard on the photos that I've been posting, and rightly so - most of the photos have been "technically" very bad. This week's Retro Photo is not the greatest, but it is also not the worst. The photographer actually put some thought into the taking of the photo and for that I give him "props". Is "props" still a current word? Oh well, doesn't matter. The photographer gets "props" regardless. Not "mad props", just "props". The idea of the pic is good - overdone and overused - yes, but it's still always a good idea to put a babe on a pedestal. I like what the photographer was going for - plain white background, model on a pedestal - composition dead center. All of that deffo works for me, but yes, there are a few problems, nothing major, but the picture still could have been a little better. One of my major pet peeves with a lot of photographers and their photos is that the pics are all one tone of grey. And this one is no different. I would've loved to see the background a little brighter and a lot whiter. And I would've also liked to see a little more contrast in the photo - especially in regards to the model - again, she is just one tone of grey - ick! Ok, now I am going to get picky. The pedestal would have been better if it was something solid, not a drawer. Lose the ring on the model's hand. Lose the undies. Lose the bad wig. Lose the heels and put the feet on the pedestal. Oh my... What was it that I liked about the photo again? - LOL. The idea. That's right. ;o)

I fall asleep with the rosary still clutched in my hand. Her screams wake me; the long strand of onyx beads still wrapped around my fingers, the cross feels seared into my palm.

Sleep always comes after the beast has been sated. All the malice, the need for blood, tears and screams, vanishes so thoroughly that even I have trouble believing it was only hours before that I tormented my beautiful captive. In the hours before sleep took over, I had finally decided what I would have to do, but now those thoughts are gone in my urgency to get to Isabella.

Her screams are panicked; I nearly trip in an effort to get to her. Opening the door, I find her on her knees in front of the bureau - the bureau above which hangs a large mirror. I instantly know what has happened. She's seen herself, and her cut, bruised and ravaged body is more than she can comprehend. I curse myself for falling asleep without tending to her, at least cleaning her up, washing away the blood that stains and streaks her body, and dressing her wounds, perhaps knowing none were deep enough to require sutures allowed me the luxury of solitude.

I approach her, bend to lift her and her screams become louder, more frantic. She yells at me to get away from her, to leave her alone, shouting that I am a fucking monster, a malevolent bastard, a demon. I back away from her slightly, kneel and speak very softly and slowly trying to calm her. When this doesn't work, I leave to get a tranquilizer filled syringe. Returning, she sees the needle and resumes her shouts, but I overpower her though she kicks and screams and threatens me. I know it will only be minutes before the drug takes effect and than I can clean her up and talk to her calmly and rationally.

She fights up until the end, although she knows the struggle is in vain; I am a strong man. I don't even need to try hard to hold onto her despite her valiant efforts. Suddenly she just stops, she's not asleep but the drug has knocked the fight out of her. “You bastard,” is all she's able to whisper.

I go to the bathroom and gather the things I need to clean her: a washcloth, a basin of warm water, peroxide, antiseptic cream, gauze and bandages. I set them down on the bedside table and then I lift her limp body from the floor and place her gently on the bed. The strength is gone from her body; now, only her eyes convey her disdain. She gnaws at her lower lip often, the cuts sting when cleaned, even the drug doesn't negate the bite and I find myself feeling sorry for this new pain, knowing exactly where the blame lies - in my hands, the hands now healing her.

I wrap her in a clean flannel robe before leaving to make her a cup of tea. I don't close the door to her room. She's incapable of going anywhere. Returning, I sit on the bed beside her, help her sit up and take a sip of tea.

“I'm sorry, Isabella,” I say before she can is able to speak. Seeing her this way, seeing the aftermath of my actions, I am remorseful, even though I know that remorse will be swallowed and spit out when the beast returns demanding his pound of flesh.
She can barely speak; her voice is so raspy from screaming. I see her struggling to form the words in her head. She grimaces as her hands dig into the mattress, pushing herself up, despite the pain, to look straight into my eyes. “Fuck you, Gabriel. Fuck you,” she says before she turns her head away.

“I'll leave you alone. I'll just bring you something for the pain first.”

Unexpectedly, her head snaps back, she holds my gaze again, assessing me before she speaks again. “Don't, Gabriel. Let me feel it. This pain that I have only you to thank for. After all you've taken from me, allow me that at least. That way should I ever again foolishly think that I love you, I'll be able to remember just what the price of loving you is.”

Tears stream down her face, even before she finishes the statement. I want to pull her into my lap, wipe her tears away, press her to my chest. Let her cry until all her tears are gone and she falls asleep in my arms. My own chest aches. I feel sick at how much I've crushed her trust in me. She knew I was cruel and sadistic but nothing had prepared her for this; for every inch of her body to throb and pulse with pain and perhaps worse, for it to feel like so much of a betrayal.

I wonder if I have indeed betrayed her. After all how is that possible in this situation? I betrayed her from the start. I did encourage her to bond with me; all the special kindness, the kitten, the clothing, bringing her a cup of her favorite tea, the times I made love to her with no violence, no pain, but simply because I wanted to have her in my arms, warm and sweet, and watch her eyes as she fell over the edge. I wonder again how I could have made so colossal a mistake, me who is always so careful, so precise in my planning, how could I have neglected the fact that while she was falling in love with me, I'd also fall victim to her? If the depth of my guilt, if the ache in my heart, if how much I fought with myself to stay away her those long days and endless nights, if the fact that I want to see tears of joy, as well as tears of sadness, falling from her spikey lashes, if these are all valid indications, than I am as entranced by her as she is with me.

It makes the decision I came to during my time alone that much harder to carry out. But I know it must be done.

It takes all my strength to force myself to get up off her bed and walk away.

“Would you like me to bring Cara to you,” I ask her from the threshold.

Her voice splinters as she replies, “At this moment, I want nothing from you. Nothing at all.”

My fingers are curled around the doorknob, making me unsure when I hear her raspy voice whether it is the chill of the cold brushed steel or her words that send shards of ice all the way down my spine.

“Maybe one day you'll grace me with the knowledge of what the hell turned you into such a monster.”

I had not even talked with this Indian Goddess yet and already I had a “set in stone” time for us to do a shoot. Very unusual for me to do that. The agent then told me that she did not have a car and that I would have to arrange transportation for her to get to and from the shoot. In other words I had to pick her up and drop her off. Again, not something I usually do… Hmmm… Let's see… I booked her without speaking with her. I have to pick her up and drop her off. There is no love at first sight. Something doesn't quite add up in this equation. Oh well…

I got up the morning of the shoot, finished setting up my studio and just kind of futzed (spelling?) around nervously until I had to leave. Why was I nervous? I dunno. I certainly didn't have the feeling like I have in the past when I was excited about meeting, photographing and falling in love with a new model… Ya know, kind of like a kid on a first date. Nope, I did not have that feeling at all. So what was it? Maybe I was nervous because I didn't feel that way. Yeah, that has to be it. Usually when I hire a model over the phone, it's because I'm like a kid in a candy store and I have a great feeling about the model, about sex, about friendship, about love… Oh, and of course about getting some great photographs together. But I had none of these feelings for this model. Deffo a first. So, let's just chalk up my being nervous to… to, uh… being an idiot! Dang! The girl's a babe. We're gonna get some great pics. I don't have to be head-over-heels and/or in love/lust a model to have a great photo session. Arg! Ok… Relax… Breath deep… Let in out slow… What time is it? Shit! I'm gonna be late.

I drive to where she's staying. 20 minutes with no L.A. traffic – not too bad. I knock on the door. With bag in hand, Destiny opens the door and steps out – ready to go. Again, not too bad. I won't mention the fact that I was late so of course there was no reason why she shouldn't have been ready. But, she was ready none-the-less. Kudos to her. Back to the shoot… The first setup we did was Destiny in a cute Cheerleader uniform. She really did look cute and sexy (twinge) in the outfit. Then of course we finished up the shoot with a sleeping girl scene. Mmmm… Of course that is always fun to shoot, but by this time I was resigned to the fact that, other than a professional working relationship, we had no connection between us. So shooting the sleeping girl scene was just by the book with no (I'm a guy fondling a hot exotic Indian Babe) twinge at all. But it's all good. I got a lot of useful material from the shoot.
