Technically this pic is pretty boring and plain. Like a lot of the photos from this time period, the lighting is flat and dull. It looks to me like the photographer just threw up a bunch of lights to get an image and then just snapped the shutter. Yes, the models are lit and I guess that that is the point of this type of photo, but I certainly would have liked to see some dramatic lighting, shadows and contrast. It would have made for a much more interesting picture. I would say that the set is simple, but there is no set, just a backdrop. But it is simple and it keeps the viewer's eyes on the subjects (the models). Obviously the models are very posed, but it's ok... It works for this type of picture. I like how the middle model is pulling the others' hair. But she really isn't. I can just hear it on the set now - "Don't pull too much, I just had my hair done." - LOL
