3rd Anniversary of Sex Blogger

Holy Moly... Today is the third, I repeat, the "THIRD" anniversary of Sex Blogger. It is s hard to believe that I have already been running this blog for three years. - Yikes! Where has the time gone? That is a rhetorical question. More importantly - what have I done with my life over the past three years? That is more than a rhetorical question. It is more of a deep inside, really need to think, really need to find myself, really need to... "Holy Moly" What the hell have I done with my life over the past three years!? I don't even want to think about that...

Ok, now that that is out of the way, let's talk about the past three years of this blog. It really has changed quite a bit - no, not "quite a bit" - more like it has changed a lot over the past THREE years (dang, I still cannot believe it). Sex Blogger now has contributing writers and artists. It has more articles, photos, art, features, toons and, of course, it has more ads. I guess that kinda goes along with progress, huh? I mean, I do have have to make a living and I make my living by photography and by selling memberships to adult websites, but... we're not talking about me...

Back to the blog... I keep trying to ad more and more features, more articles, more art and, of course, more free pics of hot babes for surfers to look at. But also, while doing this, I have noticed that there is less and less of "me"... Is this a good thing? I don't know. Oops... Why do I keep going back to me? Hmmm...

Not only does Sex Blogger have many loyal returning surfers, it also gets thousands and thousands of unique hits a day. And it is growing... So I guess that I am doing something right with the direction that Sex Blogger has taken. Whether it is going in the right direction or not, one of the reasons that there is less of "me" is that I just don't have a whole lot of time these days to sit down and write out my life, rants & feelings. I'm just too busy putting all the other stuff on Sex Blogger and updating it on a daily basis... not to mention the fact that I am still working on, building and updating other adult websites, and when time permits, I am interviewing and shooting models for adult content, shooting models for my artistic work, shooting mainstream photography for... What am I shooting mainstream photography for??? I guess... because I do like it. It is separate from the adult work, I get to meet new people, I make money... Ok, well I don't really make much money with the mainstream stuff... but it's still a nice diversion from the adult world. And trust me... The adult world really sucks you in (no pun intended) and ends up taking all of your time. Granted, it is the mainstay of my financial income, but it has also become the mainstay of my social life - In other words, I have no social life because I have turned into a hermit and am chained to this computer 12 hours a day.

OMG, this is sooo about me now - LOL... Anyway, after going back and reading my First Blogger Week, I've decided that, time permitting, I'm going to try and get Sex Blogger back to being a little more personal. No, no, don't worry... I'm still going to keep all the other features, so there will always be plenty of eye-candy for everyone.

This is getting sooo long... which is another reason why I don't write that much personal stuff any more - I don't know when to shut up!!! - LOL...

     Rule # 4,273: Do not visit Dominicans on a full stomach. In fact, don't even show up thin. They will insist that you eat something and will not budge on the matter. You can decline all you want, but notice how the word no forms and opening large enough to fit a spoon.

     “Quiere comer, Yayson?”

     “I already eat, thank you.”

     “Sientese.”

     Sientese means “sit down,” and it's always followed with eating.

     Everything in the Dominican Republic comes with rice: breakfast, lunch, dessert, medical applications. If you order rice at a restaurant, they ask if you want rice with it. Moro, or rice and beans, is made with white rice, brown rice, wheat rice, and most impressively, wild rice, which has to be hunted. By week's end, all I could say was “no moro.”

     Gracia showed us around, our party swelling by the minute. That was one thing that could bring the children down from the mango tree: a white person. And no matter how many we numbered, the neighbors could accommodate. If we came with twelve people, they brought the sofa right out to the porch, carrying plates of rice on its cushions.

     By the time we reached cousin Maria, I was in a taxidermic trance.

     “Sientese,” she said.

     Uh-oh.

     Out came the chicken feet, a delicacy in the DR. It had never occurred to me to eat the foot of a chicken. Maybe I had never been hungry enough.      Yahaira walked in and saw what was happening. Not shy in any language, Yahaira said “el diablo” and “la madre” and other things that you never, ever say to someone unless you feel that you can take them in a fight. After that, I was not allowed to buy Pepsi on my own.

     Our tour continued, children staring as only they can. A six-year-old made kissing noises as he cut mangoes with a machete. His mom seemed concerned not that he would cut himself but that he would get mango in his ear. 

     One we had met everyone Gracia knew, we visited the cemetery to meet everyone she used to know. The graveyard was no Forest Lawn. It looked like, well, a ghost town: tiny buildings on either side of a dusty road. I say buildings, but they were more like chests of drawers, a drawer for each member of the family.

     We stopped at Señor Guzman, who grew up with Tia Gracia. He occupied the top drawer of the Guzman chest. An altar showed pictures of the family in happier days when their living years overlapped. Gracia cried as she kissed the empty drawers, clutching a rosary that wasn't around her neck. She did the same thing at home when she prayed to her mother, whose blood ran through 14 children. They called her La Vieja (the Old One).

     Then came Night of the Saints, when everyone squeezed into La Vieja's room to chant. It wasn't a soft Puritan prayer like I knew back home; it was loud and wild and asked that you stomp your feet. Eighty-year-old women screeched at the tops of their lungs. I couldn't understand what they were saying, but I knew that they really meant it.

     Sweaty young men banged the bongos with all their might. Everyone danced, even the fatally ill. Cousin Maria grabbed me from behind my camcorder and shuffled me toward the chaos. There I danced with men, women, children, even a baby being moved like a puppet by her mama. My puritan qualms were bongoed to death, a sacrifice to the saints.

     I woke up the next morning clear as a bell.

     “I feel terrific,” I told Gracia.

     “You handed it over to God,” she said. 

     I sat on the porch, reflecting over moro. What the Dominicans lack in possessions they make up for in time. They have time to sit on the porch and scratch. They talk to everyone who passes by, livestock included. They knew the kind of things you can only learn when you peel beans together. Our sense of brotherhood back home may have disappeared with the front porch. 

     When I arrived in the DR, I had a hard time shifting out of American mode. It hurt to slow down and not obsess over money. It wasn't so much culture shock but the fact that I was talking to a group of people who thought Dow Jones was a baseball player. It's so easy to get caught up in our worlds and not see beyond the minimall.

     In time I forgot about the news and my anus stopped twitching. I had fallen in love with a country: its smiles, its mangoes, its lack of road rules. In the end there are no language barriers; it's only love or the lack thereof.

     On our way to the airport, I absorbed the country from a lounge chair in the back of a pickup. Young men played dominoes in the middle of the day. They couldn't afford the baubles of Bauble-On, but they knew where they belonged. They would be buried in a chest of drawers beside their family. They didn't need insurance; they knew that no matter what happened, they would be okay.

     Americans may have all the stuff, but in this exhausted man's opinion, Dominicans are by far the richer.
