Martin Toye is a photographer from Paraná, Argentina. The images shown in this gallery are for an exhibit of his work called 'Venus & Adonis' in his hometown.

What's remarkable in his work is the talent to display sensuality trough purity. His models are posed in a rather naked, clean surrounding with often a suggestion of abandoned buildings and porches with decaying walls. It gives the figures extra intensity and contrast. The models he uses are not the mainstream professional nudes you see all over, but real characters. Some are older, larger, smaller, just like real people ;-) Especially when he uses older models there comes a depth in his work that is really personal and very beautiful in my humble opinion.

I think what also adds personality to the work is that he does not limits himself to only the usual sexual perspective but he plays with a broad range of views on sexuality. I don't even think that the world sexual is always in place. I definitely think sensual is a better one.

The poses are sometimes subtle, sometimes a little dramatic, but always with a timeless feel. He creates an introvert world inside his images where the human figures are only by themselves. They life their sensual live inside the photographic space.

I think Martin Toye is one of the best Photographers out there and he really deserves a place in the artworld of today, not only in Argentina but all around the world.

And So It Goes - Book Me

     I’m a greedy reader. Throughout the day, I steal every occasion to break out a book. In line at the market, I actually enjoy standing behind that guy who is shopping once and for all: more time to read. I loiter so long in Borders, they want to charge me rent. While driving, I'll steer with my knee to finish a chapter. I also read before bed each night. If I don't turn in till 1 a.m., so it goes.

     On top of my toilet is a book of quotations. During a recent ... movement ... I found a great quote by General Norman Cota: “Gentlemen, we are being killed on the beaches. Let's go inland and get killed.”

     I keep every book I read and refrain, by policy, from lending them out.

     Another quote from the toilet: “No one ever returns books. The only books in my shelf are the ones that people lent me.”

     My bookshelf, or trophy case, is more crowded than the California coastline. I’m just kidding; nothing is that crowded. The books are, however, heavy enough to prevent even the dearest of friends from helping me move. The books are alphabetized not just because of my OCD but because I reference them often. If I need to cite the meaning of life, for instance, I turn to the A's, find Douglas Adams, and see that it is 42.

     Today, I’m strolling down memory shelf. I am on my belly in the living room, head in hands, admiring the annals before me. Maybe it's the booze talking, but I’m starting to wax philosophical. May I?

     Ahem.

     Books shape us. They inform us, amuse us, help us quit smoking cigarettes. They divulge truths that were kept from us in high school. They are footholds in our perpetual climb for heaven. They stand proud in our library like so many soldiers saluting our effort to evolve.

     Reviewing my collection, I see the textbooks, self-important, taking extra space as if they deserve their own case but lack the funding. There is The Human Brain, my newest trophy (I was trying to figure out what's wrong with me ... the search continues). There is Media and Society, Human Communication, Encyclopedia of Religion, ad infinitum, et al., and so forth.

     Tucked into the crevices between the big boys are the novels I so enjoy. Amazon offers a “Dover Thrift Collection” where you can purchase the classics for pennies on the dollar. Last month, I ordered 6 bazillion books that I've been meaning to read. I stick to the classics because they have been prescreened by time, and time has pretty good taste.

     The flowery spines belong to self-help authors: Buscaglia, Dyer, Jampolsky. I read one per month in lieu of counseling.

     Then come the fun books—Seuss, Larson, Alfred E. Neuman. They are the whipped cream on the dangling carrot that sees me through the cerebral stuff.

     Then we've got the poets: Whitman, Frost, Sandburg. Bless 'em for making life rhyme.

     Then we've got the how-to books: how to write essays, how to have sizzling sex, how to make money (a book on counterfeiting).

     In recalling each title, I visit an old friend who hasn't changed a bit.

     There is Stranger in a Strange Land, a work that sealed a leak in my guts. There is The Hobbit, which I finished over a sunburn at the beach. There is The Essays of Emerson, the richest book in the bunch. Would you know that I bought it for a dime at a garage sale?

     Talented writers take more space than the others. Steinbeck has consumed the S's despite objections from Shakespeare; Dickens owns the D's; Vonnegut, showoff, presents his life's work at the end of the alphabet.

     Oh, and there's a thick one: the Bible. I placed it in the G's for God. This particular Bible is covered in pastel swirls, but make no mistake—it is the heaviest read you'll ever undertake. All the Easter egg colors in the world won't disguise the nonstop genealogy, the 6-point type, the wherefores and untos. I would have quit on the Bible if it weren't for spite: I needed to know what the thumpers were thumping about (I hate when people speak in tongues).

     I encourage you to spend time with your books. Organize them. Reread them. Take them to the zoo.

     Our books form the truest record of where we've been and who we are. They are the reference section of our larger life.

     I will continue to grow my collection in the hope that someday I can look back and figure out what the hell it was all about.

Hazards, hassles & aggravations of being an adult photographer.

Ok, here's a rant about the some of the hazards, hassles, frustrations and aggravations of being an adult photographer. Don't get me wrong. I love my job, but sometimes, and these sometimes are getting more and more common, I really feel like I need to find a new career.

Case in point: A few weeks ago I saw the photo of a fresh, cute, petite & young (over 18) model in an agency's book and I asked the agent to have that model give me a call so I could set up an interview.  A few days go by and I never heard from the model. I call the agent and he informs me that she went on a bad interview (usually meaning that the photographer tried to or did have sex with her) and that she was now out of the business.

Ok… that sucks. It sucks for me, because she was very cute and I think we could have gotten some good pics. It sucks for her because there are asshole photographers out there that can't keep their dicks in their pants, they have no respect for models and they ruin these models for the rest of us photogs. But, thinking on the positive side… maybe it is a good thing that this model experienced that other photographer early in her career and maybe because of that she will think twice about her choices in life. And apparently she did, because she was no longer doing porn. Good for her. But, I digress…

Yesterday, I again noticed this same model in the agent's book. Apparently her bad experience was not enough to keep her out of the biz, so once again I ask the agent to have her call me. He does better than that, she is sitting in his office and he just hands her the phone… Woo-Hoo. We talk for about 10 minutes and she sounds so professional, so worldly and so not like the young amateur that she is. I'm impressed. And I almost book her (over the phone) for a shoot immediately. But something does not sit well with me. I don't know what it is… Instead of booking her for a shoot, I ask her to come over for a face to face interview. She agrees and says that she will be at my office within the hour.

She shows up right on time. Again, I am impressed. But she does not show up alone, she comes with a friend – who is also interested in doing some adult modeling. And immediately, I had a bad feeling about it. Some guy on the other end starts off asking questions. “What kind of photography do you do?” What is the name of your business?" Do you shoot models with or without clothes?” “Do you shoot porn videos?” Not knowing what this is really about, I, of course, was being very evasive, while at the same time I was trying to figure out what this strange guy (calling me at midnight) wanted.

Finally it came to light when he asked me if I had a shoot scheduled for today. I told him yes and he then informed me that it was his daughter! Arg! I hate confrontations. I hate drama. I hate problems. I hate to be threatened and I knew that that was next on his list. And he did not disappoint me. He threatened me! He told me that I was not going to photograph his daughter and if I did, there would be big problems for me and I would be very sorry. I felt sick. I told him there would be no problems.

Now, you might be thinking to yourself that I'm a chicken. If that is how you want to look at it - that is your choice. Me? Nope, I don't look at it that way. I look at it this way… Here is a father, concerned about his daughter and… Wait a second… I will not even go into the fact that the daughter is doing porn because she probably had a fucked up childhood. And I'm not going to mention (but I will anyway) that maybe he should be talking with her instead of calling me... But again, I digress...

Ok… let me start again… Here is a father, concerned about his precious daughter. He is so concerned in fact that he calls a photographer at midnight to threaten the photographer with “implied” bodily harm if the photographer shoots his daughter. I appreciate and respect this father's concern for his daughter and that alone would be enough for me to NOT shoot the daughter… But there is more to it than that. I do not know the daughter, I do not know the father and I certainly do not think that getting the shit beat out of me or getting killed over a photo shoot or even just having to deal with the drama of the situation is worth it. So, of course, I say there will be no problems. He hangs up!

I hate confrontations. I hate drama. I hate problems. I hate to be threatened. And now I can't sleep. I go over and over the conversation in my head. How did he get my phone number? How did he know that the photo shoot was scheduled for 11am? Does he know where I live as well? Is he going to just show up here? I hate confrontations. I hate drama. I hate problems. I hate to be threatened. And I still cannot sleep.

Two o'clock in the morning: I get up. I clean up my studio. I put all the costumes & props that I was going to use with his daughter away and… Wait! All of a sudden it becomes clear. I put two and two together and...His daughter is the first model, NOT the Latina babe that I actually had scheduled to shoot at 11am. I had scheduled his daughter for the following day. It really doesn't matter though, does it? Arg! Daughter had another shoot scheduled for today with another photographer and they are doing hardcore stuff. Arg! And I still can't sleep. Now I am really worried…

Well I finally did fall asleep, but it was a restless sleep with dreams of an angry dad storming  into my house, catching me with his daughter and... and... there was a robot and bunnies and... Well, let's not get all Freudian here...

I woke up wondering if Daddy talked to Daughter and if not - if Daughter and/or Latina babe were still going to show up here for a shoot. I had to call Daughter to find out and to also make sure that our shoot (s) were canceled. I called and after a dozen or so rings I got an answering machine. The outgoing message was something about “God loves you and make sure to go to Church”. I hung up with out leaving a message.

Blogger Babe - Kitty
