Condoms

I'm always buying new and different brands of condoms. Ya know, just to be different and to have some variety. Of course the standard name brands like Trojan, Durex & LifeStyles are kewl and they certainly have all kinds of different styles to choose from. So you basically can't go wrong with them. I kinda like the LifeStyles "Tuxedo" condom. It's not as good as their Ultra Sensitive but it's all black (and black is my favorite color), so it's kewl to use every now and then. Another condom that I like is a no-name brand called "Sure." They're sensitive, thin but strong (haven't broken one yet) and best of all - inexpensive. Recently I tried a another brand named TrustEX - and all that I can say is ICK! Actually I can say more and I'm going to. I don't know what else TrustEX has, but I purchased and tried their Assorted Flavors box: strawberry, chocolate, banana, grape, cola and vanilla flavored condoms. The first one I tried was grape and it was fairly gross. The condom was purple (nice touch) but it was very sticky and smelt like... well, I'm not sure what it smelt like, but it certainly wasn't grape. The initial taste was not too bad, but the after-taste stayed with me for a while and it was deffo not a good taste to have staying with me - especially while I'm having sex. Most people would stop there, but since I bought a few boxes (stupid, stupid) I figured that I should at least try another flavor. So the next flavor was vanilla. For some reason, they made the condom blue (which is ok because blue is my second favorite color)... but I always thought that vanilla was white or creme colored. Anyway, the vanilla smelt worse than the grape. Not at all like vanilla should be, not even close, more like melted plastic. Yeah it kinda ruined the mood... Taste? No, no, never got that far! The smell by itself was enough to get the condom a quick flush. So with TrustEX, I highly do NOT recommend them.

New Sites, Video Shoot, T-Shirt Hell & "BB"

It's been a few days, but I finally got my three new sites uploaded to the net and submitted to my sponsors. It took longer than I thought, but they're up and running and I don't have to worry about them for a while. Hopefully they'll start generating some income very soon. But who knows... It's a weird and strange biz!

Adult Video Shoot

I just talked to my friend about his upcoming adult video shoot and he said that he has not been able to book any of the models that I sent him. He's just starting out in the biz and it's a low budget shoot and apparently none of the models he's met with are interested in working for the amount he's offering. I understand the models' point of view on this. They want to be paid the going rate... but my friend is only offering half that. But it's not just money he's offering - it's a whole package deal. He wants to put the models under a contract where they'll be guaranteed regular work on a bi-monthly basis. Plus he wants to pay the models for special appearances promoting the video. And in addition, he also wants to do merchandising and build and maintain a custom adult website for the models - splitting any profits 50/50. So in the long run, it's not a bad deal for the models and they'll actually end up making more money than just getting the initial going rate. But these are all promises and who knows if any of it will actually come to fruition. And that's what these models are thinking about: money here and now - not promises of future money. And... I can't say I blame them. But at the moment, that does leave us without a model.... Arrrgggghhhhhh...

Blogger Babe - Sam

Things She Said

Neo asked me to contribute because I know two or three people who've worked in the sex business. I thought I'd start with this girl who had a way of saying things that stuck with me.

I met Terri back when I thought I was going to be a director because I went to a pricey film school. Terri was a thousand times better at tech than I'd ever be: Cameras, sound, NLE, she was a shark. But working tech on film sets is a deeply macho thing, even more than construction. Terri wasn't in any of the unions, and she needed work. Her second gig out of grad school was editing gay porn.

Two or three months into it, Terri was comfortable enough to tell me what she was doing. I was an office temp then, so I focused more on the fact that she was actually editing than I did on the content.

"How is it?" I asked.

"It's a paycheck," she said. "I do it, I don't get hassled, and I leave. They've got a really nice digital set-up." I found out later that's the hard-core motto -- sure it's video, but it's the best fucking video money can buy. 

A couple of weeks later we had lunch at the Stage Deli. We didn't talk much about the gay-porn gig, except for one thing. "You know, the stuff I edit out... some of it... the actors are really rough with each other." A bunch of pictures flashed through my mind. They're flashing again as I write this, five years later.

She looked a little pale. Maybe she'd put on a couple of pounds. But editing will do that -- twelve hours a day sitting in a darkened room. I didn't think much about it. 

Six months later I got a call from her. "Can you PM for me? It's five hundred for the weekend." PM means manage the production -- handle the budget and make sure all the necessary stuff gets to the set. I hate being a PM, and I'm never going to win any PM Achievement Awards. But I really needed the money. "Before you answer, it's porn. I'm directing. But it's straight porn."

That brought me up short.  Everybody rents porn; but making it was something else. It wasn't like I was going to run for president and have to explain my name on the credits for Vivid Video. And it wasn't like I'd have to take my own clothes off (a very good thing). But-

It would be a location shoot in the San Fernando Valley, Porn Capital of America.  It would be August.  All the windows would be shut to cut down exterior noise. Naked, sweaty people and body fluids in 100-degree heat with no ventilation. I had enough sexual hangups without adding smell to the list. 

Still, five hundred dollars for one weekend.  It was tempting. And then Terri spoke up again. She must have thought I was hesitating because of the amount of work I'd have to do. "It's real easy," she said. "All you have to do is take care of the tissues and lube."

Bang. Another sentence stuck in my brain, and five hundred dollars out the window.

A year went by. Terri needed to crash at my place while she was in town, shooting another porn video. When she showed up, I had to keep my mouth shut. She looked awful.  She'd gained a lot of weight -- enough to change her appearance radically. She was pale as death. It hurt me to see her like that. I took her out for a stroll, and we talked.

"Everybody's actually pretty nice," she said. "Sometimes, the actors will see I'm depressed, and they'll offer to have sex. You know, they're trying to be friendly." A fifteen year old boy's biggest fantasy, working on the set of a porn video. "Of course, they're always taking Thera-Flu." "What?" "Well, they're always sneezing and coughing, they catch all these bugs from each other. You know, it's like nursery school." After that, I didn't have much left to say.

Terri directed porn for two more years before she started her own industrial video company. I kept telling her to get out the whole time, but she said she needed the money -- although after she paid the actors and crew out of the lump sum she got, I don't think she could have made that much. It isn't the money. It's just what some people know how to do, and so they do it, even if there's a price. When you consider that my price is just some pictures stuck in my brain, I came out of it pretty easy. Of course, that was the price I paid just for knowing somebody in the biz.
